Sutton Council's Character Appraisal & Management Plan
Picture
Picture
If you love Carshalton, and care about it's unique and historic features, then please do get involved in planning for the longer term future of the area. The Board of Trustees of The Friends of Honeywood Museum received a most interesting, and thought-provoking, presentation from Duncan Clarke (Sutton's Strategic Planning Manager) and his colleague Dean James at a meeting this evening, and we were encouraged by what we heard, and will be responding formally in due course.

Please note the dates in the image above right.

Find Sutton Council's Consultation page HERE.

If you find it easier, read the Council's Consultation Document 'on screen' (we think it makes very interesting reading) or download it to save and read later or over time HERE.

Then respond from the bottom of Sutton Council's Consultation page HERE.

A special painting returns to Honeywood Museum

We’re delighted to announce that, after several years’ absence, Frank Dickinson’s wonderful painting from 1940 Bomb incident in Carshalton High Street will be re-hung at Honeywood Museum during the afternoon of Friday 21 June.

The Friends of Honeywood Museum have funded the re-framing of the painting to museum standards, and it’s return to Honeywood coincides with the start of Carshalton Artists Open Studios weekends 22/23 and 29/30 June which focus on Frank Dickinson’s work at Little Holland House, Honeywood and elsewhere.

Greetings Cards of the image will be available to purchase at the Museum’s Shop.

Electrical problem at Honeywood Museum

8/6/2019

Updated 21 June - We're delighted to inform our visitors that our recent electrical problems have been resolved and  full access to the Museum has now been restored. Thank you for your patience.

Updated 18 June

We're working as hard as possible with our contractors to remedy this issue, the cause of which has now been identified. We very much hope to have the matter rectified by Friday 21 June.

Due to an electrical fault, there is currently no public access to the upper floor in the Museum. This also means that there is no Wi-Fi on site.

We are trying to respond to emails sent to Honeywood as quickly as possible, but please be aware that there may be a delay in replying to you. The fault could also make our telephone reception more difficult than usual.

We do apologise for any inconvenience caused by this, and are working to resolve the fault as quickly as possible.

The ground floor is open, with the new exhibition of art works by Horace Mann Livens and a last chance to see the Women in the Frame exhibition.

For family visitors, we have moved our wooden Brio railway and some other toys downstairs.

The Tea Room is open as usual.

Carshalton Artists Open Studios 22/23 & 29/30 June

21/4/2019

Carshalton Artists Open Studios will, in 2019 celebrate the work of Carshalton Arts and Crafts artist, Frank Dickinson. Dickinson built and then made the stunning interiors of the grade 2 listed Little Holland House. Sutton Museums and Heritage will collaborate with CAOS and will open Little Holland House for all four days of the CAOS festival.

In 2018 CAOS celebrated the work of Pauline Boty, with three schools joining CAOS artists in producing nearly 300 works of A5 artwork, inspired by Boty and displayed in businesses across Carshalton. Carshalton Artists plan on doing the same with Dickinson in 2019.

A Friends of Honeywood Museum Event

To celebrate Black History Month the Friends of Honeywood Museum bring you an evening of jazz originally played by the Greats to illustrate the huge contribution that Black musicians made to the jazz era.

Enrico Tomasso enjoys a well-earned international reputation, including best trumpet category winner in the 2018 British Jazz Awards. Age seven he met and played for Louis Armstrong, resulting in a life-long friendship.

‘It is a mark of true distinction when a jazz trumpeter plays with such fluency and apparent ease that you listen to the music and not the technique’ (Dave Gelly, The Observer).

Alongside Enrico is very skilled and knowledgeable pianist Hugh Crozier. ‘Nothing could ever muddy up the pianist’s vibrant solos’. (Jazz Review).

Tickets £10 (Friends £8) include a glass of wine and nibbles.

Please ‘phone 020 8642 4778 to book.
