The Carshalton and District History and Archaeology Society, which celebrates the Centenary of its foundation this year, would like to invite you to join in some of its celebrations.
In their Heritage Treasure Hunt, you will be invited to identify and locate twenty aspects of our local heritage from across the London Borough of Sutton from their images in a booklet, with prizes for the best answers. It will run from 11 July to 16 August. Copies of the booklet will be available from Honeywood Museum, Whitehall, and Little Holland House, and will also be available to download from the Society’s website. Other activities are also being planned. Watch out for them on the Society’s website. ..... available for booking over the weekend of 1/2 February. Keep an eye on our Events Page when the times comes in order to get in early with your bookings - our events are extremely popular and almost always sell out!!
To our visitors, Friends, volunteers, staff and those who view our Website - we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a most peaceful and happy 2020.
Make a note to visit our early 2020 Exhibitions, and to look out for the new Events we'll be highlighting for booking in late January/early February! Congratulations to the lucky winners, drawn by author Alison Weir, from our Autumn Raffle:
Very many thanks to all all who supported the venture, whether by buying tickets or providing prizes. We are extremely grateful.
All the staff and volunteers at the Museum have received full training, and we're ready to go!!
Click on the image to find out more about the prizes. This is a major fund-raiser for The Friends of Honeywood Museum. As a charity, we depend very much on people's generosity for our income. Every penny of the proceeds of this Raffle are used to support the Museum, and to maintain its place in the centre of Sutton's heritage and at the heart of the Carshalton Village Conservation Area.
The Raffle will be drawn on Thursday 28 November by world famous author Alison Weir, and the winners will be announced on this page soon afterwards. We recently put up our first events of 2020 for booking. If you are interested, then please do get in quickly - we almost always have to put up a 'Sold Out' or 'Fully Booked' notice ahead of the day. To avoid disappointment, please download, print and return our easy to use Booking Form from HERE.
We've been busy adding (after a few nudges from those who wish to see them again - quite right to nudge us too!) additional decades to our Transport Archive. We're up to date to the 1980s now, and plan to put the last couple of pages up early next month. Please do read the words at the top of the page when you arrive there! Enjoy!
This series of events has proved very popular. A short excerpt from A Musical World Tour is shown below: Unfortunately circumstances have conspired against us, so the next, and final, instalment of the tour will be held on:
Saturday 14 December 15:00 - Oh So Funny! The last in the current series: Comedy songs from the 1910s to 1930s played on authentic wind up gramophones, just as they were heard 80+ years ago! FREE, drop in. Sutton is bidding to be London Borough of Culture in 2023 - will you help put culture at the heart of our Borough and make culture matter? The bid will be submitted to the Mayor of London on 28 October 2019, and the winning borough will be announced in January 2020.
A successful bid brings a potential £1.35m of funding for culture in the Borough which would be a really significant boost. The Friends of Honeywood Museum are fully supportive of this initiative. Please do click on the image below to indicate your support too. #Sutton2023 #mylocalculture We're sorry, but our October and November events are long sold out.
BUT....... we shall start announcing our 2020 Talks and Events from the latter part of October 2019 onward!! Always see our Events page for the latest information.
Following the amazing success of our Carshalton Mugs, we are delighted to announce that stock of a new Wallington Mug from LazyStuff is now also available in our shop. Featuring silhouettes of well-known landmarks around the town, it costs just £12, and we are reliably informed it holds cold drinks just as well as hot!!
Our Summer Holiday events for children and families start on 24 July with the Museum's Dinosaur Summer throughout the holidays during the Museum's normal opening hours.
During August, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 14:30 to 16:30 The Friends' sandpits in the back garden will be available for a little seaside fun. Our Tea Room will be open for teas, coffees, cold drinks, light meals and (of course!) ice creams!! We’ve just added a lot of great new Events to our Website. Many are FREE, a few require advance booking, some are awaiting a little further detail:
Lots of new Special Events, two new Regular Events and further activities at Little Holland House. We've also been able to update our Exhibitions page at long last.
