Carshalton Old Rectory Association (CORA)
The Old Rectory is a beautiful period house in the heart of the Carshalton Village Conservation Area and listed Grade II*. It was bought by Carshalton Urban District Council over 70 years ago, as a community asset. The Council has now decided that it surplus to the requirements and has sold it. The buyer also owns the Fox and Houses in Carshalton High Street which has been neglected for many years and is now in a dire state.
A group of representatives from five local community groups (The Friends of Honeywood Museum, the Friends of the Carshalton Water Tower, the Friends of the Ecology Centre, Carshalton and District History and Archaeology Society and The Carshalton Society) formed Carshalton Old Rectory Association to campaign for the Council to keep the Old Rectory as a resource for local people. We are now monitoring the situation and will do what we can to try to protect the building from neglect and inappropriate development. Situated in Festival Walk, alongside Honeywood Museum, the building has a rich history surrounding its long-standing place in the heart of Carshalton's Heritage Conservation Area. The latest CORA Newsletter may be found under 'News' on CORA's Website. Find out more there about the latest situation in the saga of The Old Rectory. |
