The Olympic Torch Relay - Carshalton 2012
On 23 July 2012 Carshalton came alive with people lining the streets, stalls from local community groups and activities on the day the London Olympic Torch relay passed through the village. Leatherhead’s Malcolm Mcfarlane, running past Carshalton Ponds, was one of 23 torch-bearers on the route through the London Borough of Sutton. Buses were diverted throughout the occasion, and the local constabulary based themselves at the Museum. The pictures below offer a flavour of the occasion.
The final two pics show Wanda, floated by Carshalton’s yarn bombers. The woolly coven of Carshalton has its own dedicated page in our Archive here.
