Carshalton Ponds - Update

The remaining water in the upper pond was removed on Friday evening. This morning, the contractor began working with additional labour to repair the hole in the upper pond wall. They made good progress today and also repaired the damaged section of the wall in the lower pond. The contractor intends to complete the upper pond repairs tomorrow.
 
These repairs aim to stabilise the water level, which will benefit the local wildlife. While it was not the initial intention to drain the upper pond completely, the hot weather caused the remaining water to evaporate rapidly. This work can only be carried out during the summer when the springs are not flowing.
 
SES Water is on standby to turn the water flow back on and refill the pond as quickly as possible. They will then monitor the flow to assess the effectiveness of the repairs in reducing water loss.
 
Additionally, local wildlife volunteers have rescued many of the birds and moved them to the lower pond. We hope the ponds will be filled by mid-week and will maintain stable water levels moving forward.
